“Oh what a night!
I need to sort through the photos properly, but I just wanted to pop on here to say a couple of things…
I’m not usually one for posts at all, but I hate speaking to a room as I am rubbish on my feet (quite literally!) and if I had followed on from Rafi’s words on Saturday night, I would have lost the plot and ruined my makeup! So, I just wanted to say, I am so, so proud of CP Teens UK - it was just a little idea that just kind of grew and to see what it is today is incredible… and that’s nothing to do with me despite the absolutely lovely comments and words over the past week, but everything to do with every single young person who has got involved, come along, shared their experiences, made friends & created this fantastic, tight knit community where everyone feels accepted and understood.
Being a teenager/young adult with a physical disability can be a hard and isolating experience, but how these young people come together and cheer one another on is just so special. I have made the most incredible friends and I feel so blessed and fortunate to be in a position where ten years ago, I wondered what on earth I was going to do having left school where I felt different and left out, but now I’m surrounded by so much love and I am so much more confident.
But of course, I haven’t done this by myself. There are SO many thank yous that I will be doing over the course of the 10th anniversary year on CP Teens social media, but I just wanted to mention my Mum. My Mum has never shied away from a challenge when it’s come to me and it’s because of her I’ve got that “sheer bloody mindedness” that she referred to on Saturday night! I couldn’t have done what I’ve done if it wasn’t for my Mum finding a way for practically everything and for silently working away at home in the background to keep CP Teens running.
Thank you so much everyone, it’s been the best celebration! Here’s to the next 10 years!” ~ Ellie
