Every year Bonfire Night can be problematical for people with Cerebral Palsy due to having a startle reflex (medical term - moro reflex). Everybody is born with a moro reflex but usually outgrow it by 6-months-old. Typically people with Cerebral Palsy do not outgrow the moro reflex due to the damage in the brain.

One of our most popular initiatives is back for our the final block this year (September-December 2023)! Starts 20th September - this block will run until Christmas.

Online informal, interactive and fun social sessions! Meet and chat with like-minded youngsters from the comfort of your own home and in a supportive, safe space.

Fortnightly (with a couple of exceptions) - Wednesdays, 5-6pm GMT

Maximum age limit - 25-years. Recommended minimum age - 11-years. Chat box feature available for non-verbal participants/participants who struggle with speech or prefer to use written communication.

The weather in Wales unfortunately had other ideas today for Alex climbing Mount Snowdon!

After several falls, gale force winds up to 70mph and torrential rain, Alex along with her partner Elliott had to abort reaching the summit this morning!

​

But! Even though Alex & Elliott couldn’t reach the summit, with the battle of the elements & several falls, we are sure that everyone will agree that their challenge & efforts are now even more impressive! Not many people would try and battle to the top of a mountain in the conditions that they faced!

​

Alex said, “The weather really wasn’t on our side today! After 2 and a half hours of battling the downpour of rain and crazy winds, we decided it was too dangerous to continue! We made it 3/4 of the way up and we are so proud of our efforts! You’ve not defeated us yet Snowdon, we’ll be back for round 2! Nevertheless, we’ve managed to raise a great amount of money for such a worthy cause!”

Alex takes on Mount Snowdon for CP Teens UK!

​

Alex is climbing Mount Snowdon on Saturday for CP Teens UK. At 3,560ft Snowdon is the highest mountain in Wales!

Alex says, "To celebrate 10 years of CP Teens UK, I will be putting on my walking boots and taking on Snowdon on Saturday 12th August to raise money to enable this amazing charity to carry on providing fantastic services and support to those who use it!"

​

Alex, who is one of Ellie's PA's, helps a lot in the CP Teens UK office and supports the delivery of events & initiatives, so will be a familiar face to some of you.

Boccia Sundays!

We restarted CP Teens UK Boccia today for block 2 in a new venue on a real Boccia court!

The time has finally come for Nathan who has been preparing for the past year to go to the World Scout Jamboree in South Korea! He is off tomorrow on the trip of a lifetime. Have an incredible time Nathan!

Lots of lovely holiday plans lined up for people including getaways to York, Spain & Turkey! We spoke about & shared stories about wheelchairs getting damaged when flying - this is astonishingly common.

GCSE results are on the horizon and we have every confidence in those awaiting them!

A massive thank you to Eventus22 who have held a charity fundraising day where 50% of proceeds were for CP Teens UK!

Eventus22 did a marathon sled push challenge on Saturday 8th July raising over £10,000 in total to be split between CP Teens UK & Sarcoma UK. What an incredible amount!

The two charities were chosen by two Eventus22 clients in memory of their children. Ade Coleman chose CP Teens UK in memory of his son, Owen, who had Cerebral Palsy

A busy weekend for CP Teens UK!

Saturday was the 2023 Sponsored Wobble at Chatsworth. The wet weather didn’t put off our ‘wobblers’! A big well done to Pippa, Millie, Sam, Matt, Orla, Ellie and all accompanying family & friends! Total raised at the Wobble will be announced soon.

On Sunday, we were at Sheffield Children's Hospital Sport For Life Day where we partnered up with Momentum Mobility & Rehab once again to deliver Frame Running. As ever, Frame Running was extremely popular and all of the children absolutely loved getting on the frames and experiencing the freedom.

On Sunday evening, Gavin (Ambassador) and Rafi (one of our first CP Teens UK Frame Running Club members) secured a British 1-2 in the 100m Male T72 at the World Para Athletics Championships in Paris! Incredible!

A fantastic weekend all around!

Melissa & Grace both have Cerebral Palsy and they met through CP Teens UK. The girls met in-person earlier this year for the first time when Melissa went away for a week of hydrotherapy near to where Grace lives. "It’s amazing to have someone I’m so close to with the same disability as me" - Melissa.

​

Melissa & Grace share a love of gymnastics. They have made a short documentary together with Speech Bubble Drama about their love for the sport and the inequalities they face as disabled gymnasts - 'Flippin' Inequality'.

Katie said, "I didn’t know what to expect going into the Tough Mudder. Of course, I knew it was going to be tough, but I massively underestimated just how hard it would be. There were many times I thought of giving up and calling it a day, but knowing how much money we raised for this incredible charity was a driving force in keeping us going. I would like to thank everyone for their amazing generosity and encouragement in the build up to this event - I know all the money raised will go a long way in helping this incredible charity in making a difference.”

Jake has Cerebral Palsy meaning that the 10k race is especially challenging for him. Jake chose CP Teens UK because of how we connect young people with Cerebral Palsy & similar physical disabilities.

Jake said, "Having had Cerebral Palsy from birth and moving around a lot geographically as a child, I never really had much contact with people who had Cerebral Palsy or similar disabilities until recently. Being exposed to other people with Cerebral Palsy has given me the opportunity to learn and understand how it affects different people as well".

Jake first got into running during lockdown. "I decided to start running during the second lockdown to help with my mental health. I discovered I enjoyed the fresh air and being able to clear my head. The challenge has been understanding my body's limits and how hard I can push it, whilst also increasing my fitness."

​

Another fantastic CP Teens UK Boccia session today! We started Boccia back in January and the development of all of the young people has been amazing to watch.

The accuracy & skill has come on leaps & bounds, and today’s session was competitive!

We restart Boccia again in the summer in a different venue with a Boccia court. We can’t wait and it has been such a pleasurable experience seeing these young people enjoy the sport and become better & better over the 4 months!

A massive thank you to ‘Boccia Bob’, who is such a wonderful coach with a wealth of experience & knowledge, as well as passion, enthusiasm & a great sense of humour - we’re so lucky to have you and we can’t wait to go again from the summer on a real Boccia court!

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Michael Hadfield OBE.

​

Michael was one of the very first trustees of CP Teens UK and was instrumental in getting charity status for the organisation. A lifelong close friend of Founder, Ellie’s, family, Michael always took a keen interest in Ellie and was a big supporter of both her & CP Teens UK.

​

Michael first got directly involved with CP Teens UK in 2015 when he closely assisted with setting up the governance of the charity and with achieving charity status. On 16th March 2017, CP Teens UK became registered charity number 1172105.

​

Michael, who was a valued & experienced trustee, accepted the role without hesitation when he was asked by Ellie & Debbie (Chair of the Trustees) if he would sit on the Board.

​

Michael sat on the Board of Trustees until 2019 just before his 80th birthday. After stepping down as a trustee, Michael continued to follow & support CP Teens UK.

​

We will always remember Michael for his input, support & love to CP Teens UK, and especially in the pivotal early days where he showed great enthusiasm & belief in Ellie’s vision for the charity, and subsequently helped make it happen.

All our love goes to Sue, Becky, Marcus & family at this difficult time.

This evening on Chit & Chat we chatted about a big topic - moving out! We shared our experiences, preferences & feelings about it, whether we have done it, we're preparing to do it soon, or if it's something more in our long term future.

​

We also had a good laugh at a story from one participant about a Christmas present that didn't quite go to plan!

​

Chit & Chat has now finished for the Easter break. Dates for the upcoming summer block will be released soon. Keep your eyes peeled!

Today we said a fond farewell to our home & friends at Chesterfield FC Community Trust! We have moved to the Northern Gateway - a brand new, sparkling building with accessible facilities!

SNOW DAY!

​

A lot of you will probably remember Molly! Molly discovered Frame Running at the 2022 CP Teens UK 'Have A Go' Day in Sheffield where she surprised herself & her parents, fell in love with the independence it gave her, and subsequently got her own frame thanks to a local Firefighter charity.

​

Today, Molly has been out in the snow on her Frame Runner! Molly said, "Others may take walking in snow for granted, but although I have had the experience before supported by Mum and Dad many times, they always worry they could slip over when helping me - but this way we are all safe too!"

Sadly, we've had to cancel today's Boccia session due to all participants cancelling this morning.

​

We will now be bringing our Boccia sessions in line with all our other events & activities by charging a refundable deposit to prevent charity money from being wasted.

​

Participants booked onto future sessions will be contacted to pay their refundable deposits. New registrations will now receive a PayPal request from us after registering.

CP Teens UK is delighted to announce that we are Charity of the Year 2023 of specialist equipment company and supplier Jenx Ltd & Giraffe!

The company's charity committee selects an organisation for the company to support each year, and we they try to support national, regional or local causes working to support children and families living with special needs.

Holly Jenkins, Director at Jenx, said, “As part of our pledge to give back to the community, we select our chosen charity of the year based on several criteria, including being aligned with our company vision, mission and values.

“CP Teens stood out as an organisation which has been set up to help young people with disabilities – so we automatically share a common goal.

​

“We recently celebrated our 40th anniversary, and CP Teens mark their 10th anniversary in 2023 so a collaboration between our business and the charity during both milestone years is an exciting prospect.”

​

Throughout the year, Jenx & Jiraffe will be supporting CP Teens UK in several ways, including fundraising, providing advertising opportunities, taking part in environmental activities, volunteering, allowing the use of company resources and offering work placements.

​

Dan Limb, Director at Jenx said: “We know through our work to support children with disabilities that they can often feel isolated. That’s why we are supporting CP Teens as our Charity of the Year for 2023. CP Teens is a fantastic charity doing some crucial work for young people in our communities. CP Teens UK provides a support network and accessible opportunities, both in person and online, where youngsters and families can connect, feel included and make friends.

Join us for informal chat, laughs & fun from wherever you are!

Meet and chat with like-minded youngsters from the comfort of your own home and in a supportive, safe space. Fortnightly - Wednesdays, 5-6pm GMT

Under-18's must have a parent/carer present in the room. 

Maximum age limit - 25-years. 

Recommended minimum age - 11-years.

Chat box feature available for non-verbal participants/participants who struggle with speech or prefer to use written communication. Participants very welcome to just sit & listen if they wish.
