CP Teens UK turns 7
October 16, 2020
Today, CP Teens UK turns 7-years-old!
Founded in 2013 by Ellie Simpson at 18-years-old, she had an 'idea' to connect youngsters with Cerebral Palsy and to share opportunities. It took off immediately and with its unique approach of 'for young people with Cerebral Palsy by young people with Cerebral Palsy'.
4 years later in 2017, CP Teens UK became a fully registered charity. Shortly after it was recognised by the Prime Minister (then Theresa May) with an award recognising its "outstanding contribution to the lives of disabled youngsters".
CP Teens UK provides 'help, hope, inspiration and friendship' to youngsters with Cerebral Palsy and similar physical disabilities across the UK. CP Teens UK exists to make sure that no physically disabled youngster feels alone and to provide them with a voice.
2020 has been a strange year for everyone, but we thank everyone for their continued support. Because of your continued support and donations we have been able to continue to work with youngsters remotely throughout COVID-19, providing activities, virtual events, packages, social outlets, much needed friendships and more.
Exciting things are ahead in year number 7!
Thank you Mama Boss!
October 11, 2020
The CP Teens UK #NoBangs Bonfire Night has been so popular that we doubled our capacity for this virtual event and filled it in just 48 hours!
CP Teens UK would like to say a massive thank you to The Mama Boss Shop who not only came to the rescue to enable us to double our capacity for postal pamper packs, they also:
- Gave a unique bulk discount to send the packs out to youngsters with Cerebral Palsy across the UK
- Are giving all CP Teens UK service users 10% discount on the hot chocolate pamper packs if you missed out on signing up for the event. Please message CP Teens UK for the discount code
- Are doing a special charity pamper box in aid of CP Teens UK with £1 from every box sold being donated
How kind! Thank you so much to The Mama Boss Shop 😍❤️

The Ball is at the heart of CP Teens UK and is everything that the charity is about - 'help, hope, inspiration & friendship'.
However! Those hearts don't need to remain very heavy for very long...

Saturday 27th March 2021!
Something to look forward to following these difficult times!

We apologise for any inconvenience, as well as any disappointment, caused but the health, safety and wellbeing of our service users and families is immensely important - both in terms of COVID-19 and having a well planned, safe and accessible route.
The Sponsored Wobble - North (due to take place on Saturday 9th May) is still on AS IT STANDS. We will keep you updated with any further cancellations as the situation develops.

Nominations now open for the Andrew Longden 'Hero of Disability Sport' Award 2019
January 04, 2019
Nominations are now open for the Andrew Longden 'Hero of Disability Sport' award 2019!
The award is in memory of CP Teens UK RaceRunning Coach. Andrew, who sadly passed away at the beginning of 2018. Andrew coached CP Teens UK Founder, Ellie from when she started Athletics. With the development and growth of both CP Teens UK and RaceRunning, in 2015 Andrew started coaching RaceRunning for the charity.
In 2017, Andrew was awarded 'Coach of the Year' by Cerebral Palsy Sport. His passion, love and dedication for his athletes and RaceRunning was incredible. Andrew was also a great friend who was passionate about developing the whole person and not just the athlete. He made so many disabled athletes believe in themselves as he had so much belief in them.
Andrew was also heavily involved in the Special Olympics in Yorkshire and coached a Special Olympics Athletics Group in Sheffield.
In 2018, there could only be one winner of the inaugural award and this was Andrew himself.
This award will be presented on an annual basis at the CP Teens UK Ball (2nd November 2019) and will recognise anyone involved in disability sport who displays the same attributes that Andrew did - love, passion, outstanding commitment and a true dedication to improving the lives of disabled people in sport.
Do you know someone who you think deserves to be the recipient of The Andrew Longden 'Hero of Disability Sport' Award 2019? Nominations are now open! You can nominate here.
Nominations shut on Friday 30th August 2019 at 23:59

CP Teens UK Ball 2018 is a success!
October 20, 2018
Wow! What a night for the fourth annual CP Teens UK Ball!
For the fourth year running, a sparkling and celebratory party took place, full of ‘help, hope, inspiration & friendship’ - and what a party it was!
Special Guest, Bailey Matthews, went down a storm and had the whole room laughing - and, of course, we are now all going to #BeMoreBailey! Bailey enjoyed himself and the dancing so much that there were even a few tears when the evening had to come to an end!
This year, the ‘Andrew Longden Hero of Disability Sport Award’ was introduced and presented at the Ball in loving memory of Andrew Longden, the CP Teens UK RaceRunning Coach. This award will be presented on an annual basis at the CP Teens UK Ball and will recognise anyone involved in disability sport who displays the same attributes that Andrew did - love, passion, outstanding commitment and a true dedication to improving the lives of disabled people in sport. This year, there could only be one winner, and this is Andrew himself. Andrew coached the CP Teens UK RaceRunning athletes, as well as Special Olympics athletes, and transformed lives with his love, passion, commitment, dedication and drive enabling many disabled youngsters to believe in themselves because he believed in them. He was a big supporter of the charity and of Ellie, Founder, who he also coached. The award was collected by Ross Longden, Andrew’s son, on behalf of Andrew and his family.
A BIG thank you to everyone who came along and showed immense support. And a BIG thank you to everyone that helped, with special thanks to Debbie, Andy, Tim, Jess, Karen, Megan and Bailey!
As ever, a very special night full of laughs and love!

A massive congratulations also goes to Chloe Tear, volunteer for CP Teens UK, for also being named on the list for her influential blog 'Life As A Cerebral Palsy Student'.

Gavin was 'home and Drysdale' taking Gold in the RR3 Male 100m, with Rafi swooping across the finish line behind Gavin taking the Silver medal.
The race was also an important moment in the history books of RaceRunning as it was included in the WPA programme for the first time.
Rafi took up RaceRunning in 2015 when he attended a CP Teens UK & CP Sport RaceRunning Taster Day in Sheffield; he then joined the CP Teens UK RaceRunning Club.
A huge congratulations to them both!

They both also took Silver in the 400m. Matthew Humphreys (RR3) took Gold in a neck and neck battle with Rafi in the 400m. Whilst Orla Conneely (RR2) took Bronze in the 400m after powering down the 100m home straight, overtaking the Swedes.
A special mention to Andrew Longden who was the CP Teens UK RaceRunning Coach; Andrew sadly passed away at the beginning of the year but these brilliant performances were a credit and tribute to him. He would have been very proud to watch these 4 athletes shine so brightly on the world stage.
Congratulations and a very big well done to the 4 CP Teens UK RaceRunners and the whole of Team England!

Rafi took up RaceRunning in 2015 when he attended a CP Teens UK & CP Sport RaceRunning Taster Day in Sheffield; he then joined the CP Teens UK RaceRunning Club.
Gavin has been RaceRunning in Scotland since he was little. He is a multiple word record holder and remains unbeaten!
A congratulations also goes to Kayleigh Haggo and Hannah Dines, also from Scotland, who complete the GB RaceRunning team for the European Championships.
Commiserations to CP Teens UK RaceRunner, Matthew Humphreys, and CP Teens UK Founder, Ellie Simpson, who came so close to making the team but just missed out this time.
CP Teens UK works with Meadowhall
June 11, 2018
CP Teens UK has started to work with Meadowhall Shopping Centre to improve accessibility after Founder, Ellie, met with the centre. All shops in the centre are to be provided with a wheelchair for the day so that shop staff can experience the obstacles on the shop floors for wheelchair users/people with reduced mobility.
A dedicated shopping time for people with disabilities is also being looked into for those who do not like/those who struggle to access the centre at busy periods.
Meadowhall is already leading the way having already installed a Changing Places toilet, which is located on the ground floor in the Oasis food quarter.
CP Teens UK hopes to expand this work into other shopping centres across the UK.

CP Teens UK launches its first campaign
March 29, 2018
CP Teens UK is here to provide a voice to young people with Cerebral Palsy/ physical disabilities. CP Teens UK is proud to announce the launch of our first campaign - #NotSoDisabledNow.
When 17 year-old Hope got in touch with CP Teens UK, she asked if a campaign could be run that showcased the talents and skills of young disabled people. Hope, who has Cerebral Palsy, felt that often, people see her disability before they see her as a person. Hope wanted people to start to see the person rather than the disability and came up with the campaign name 'Not So Disabled Now'.
In the first ever campaign for CP Teens UK, we feature some wonderful stories of young disabled people showcasing their talents, skills and hobbies with the aim of challenging perceptions and stereotypes.
All of CP Teens UK's campaigns will cover important issues put forward by disabled youngsters and provide them with a platform to speak out. CP Teens UK aims to run between 1-2 campaigns every 12-18 months.
Read about the #NotSoDisabledNow campaign here

Andrew Longden - A CP Teens UK Hero Remembered
February 14, 2018
CP Teens UK is devastated to learn of the sudden loss of Andrew Longden - the CP Teens RaceRunning Coach.
Andrew has coached the group since 2016 and has coached CP Teens Founder, Ellie, since she first started in Athletics in 2013. Andrew was awarded CP Sport’s ‘Coach of the Year’ award in October last year and had recently took on a second CP Teens RaceRunning group for young children.
His passion, love and dedication for his athletes and RaceRunning was incredible. Andrew was also a great friend who was passionate about developing the whole person and not just the athlete. He made so many disabled athletes believe in themselves as he had so much belief in them.
CP Teens UK will ensure that Andy's memory and legacy lives on in the RaceRunning Club and all RaceRunning activities.
A true hero for RaceRunning, Disability Athletics and CP Teens UK. Our thoughts go out to his family at this difficult time. He will be sorely missed.

CP Teens UK 2017 Ball is a sellout!
August 12, 2017
The 2017 CP Teens UK Ball has now completely sold out! The Ball, which is an annual event held at the Casa Hotel in Chesterfield, was approaching a sellout in 2016, but this year a total of 185 tickets have been sold which is the maximum capacity that the Ballroom will hold at the Casa Hotel.
Furthermore, the upcoming 2017 event now has a reserve list of people wishing to buy tickets in the unlikely event of anyone cancelling their tickets.
The annual Ball is CP Teens UK's biggest fundraiser of the year, organised and coordinated entirely by Founder, Ellie and her family. Also, not only does it raise vital funds for CP Teens UK, it also provides a very special night and celebration for many of the CP Teens UK service users and their families. Everyone is welcome at the CP Teens UK Ball and it is renowned for being a very special evening with children and young people with Cerebral Palsy/similar physical disabilities right at the heart of it.
This year's Special Guest is Abbie Hunnisett, Paralympian who is also an Ambassador for CP Teens UK. The ribbon was cut by Lucy Martin (newest young person to 'join' CP Teens UK, Ambassador & RaceRunner), Laura Webb (first ever young person to contact Ellie on the CP Teens UK Twitter account) and Chloe Tear (first ever Ambassador for CP Teens UK, now Assistant Coordinator and a massive pillar of support in helping the charity to run).

CP Teens UK gets a new home!
May 11, 2017
Since CP Teens UK was founded in October 2013 by Ellie Simpson, the charity has been ran from her own bedroom desk & kitchen table - between September 2014 and April 2017, Ellie also ran the charity around studying at Sheffield Hallam University, putting on events, including 2 very successful Balls, achieving full charitable status and being recognised by the Prime Minister.
CP Teens UK is now going into an exciting new 'era'! The charity is moving out (with Ellie!) of Ellie's bedroom and off of her kitchen table, and into the Community Hub at Chesterfield FC's new Proact Stadium! The Community Hub is part of the Chesterfield FC Community Trust, which is a charity itself that brings the community together with sport, education, health & wellbeing.
The Trust's vision is: "To work in partnership with our communities to develop a wide range of opportunities which improve the quality of life and outlook for individuals, groups and neighbourhoods in Chesterfield and the surrounding area” - a perfect match with the values & vision of CP Teens UK.
CP Teens UK Founder, Ellie Simpson, said: "This is such an incredibly exciting move for CP Teens UK and I couldn't imagine anywhere better for CP Teens UK - the values of the Trust really reflect the values of CP Teens UK and I can't wait to get in there and work in partnership. I have many ideas, including a Chesterfield Frame Football Team!"
Ellie also wants to be able to offer work experience to young people with physical disabilities from across North Derbyshire & South Yorkshire in the CP Teens UK office. She said "I can remember how difficult it was for me to find a suitable work experience host as a result of my disability when I was 15 - I ended up doing it in my school, and a few days in my Dad's office!". Thanks to CP Teens UK's partner charity, Accessible Derbyshire, a Changing Places toilet complete with hoist and bench is down the corridor from the new office making it possible for all young people with physical disabilities to access work experience.
Soon, you will be able to phone CP Teens UK, come & visit and send mail! Information will be released as soon as possible.

Abbie Hunnisett, CP Teens UK Ball 2017 Ball Special Guest, tells her story
April 11, 2017
About me:
My name is Abbie, I am 21 years old and I compete in the Club Throw, which is a specialised event for my level of disability. I have moderate to severe Cerebral Palsy, which affects all of my body so I find it challenging to do every day activities that most people can do. Despite this, in 2016 I represented GB at the Paralympic Games in Rio.
Where it all began:
My sporting journey began at the early age of 4 when I started horse riding for the disabled. I rode every weekend and only stopped when I was about 14. I really enjoyed the riding and became quite good and competed at dressage events across the county. At the age of 11, I first tried throwing the Club in a PE lesson and school and enjoyed the challenge of throwing it further. In the summer of 2012, I took a Club on holiday with me and practised a bit more and found I improved over the two weeks and threw it around 12 meters. When we got back from holiday we went to the Paralympics in London and I watched the woman’s club throw and was inspired by what I saw. I also realised I was in fact quite good at throwing the Club even without lots of practise. Later that year I went to a “throwing chair event” where I met my first coach Camilla who then introduced me to the Weir Archer Academy the athletics club which I am a member. From then onwards I started taking things more seriously and the rest is history.
The impact on my life:
Sport has had such an amazing impact on my life in all aspects. It’s given me something to focus on and succeed in and I belief that even though I have a disability NOTHING can stop me! It’s helped me become fitter and stronger, I use to find it hard to gain weight and use to look quite skinny and fragile but now I have muscles and am much fitter and healthier. Becoming successful has lead to me completing talks and presentations at school and motivating others to take up sport and be the best they can. Without sport I don’t know what I would be doing with my life, it has given me a real focus and goal.
Competing:
From 2013, I competed at the Kingston Open and Surrey County Championships, where I set my first huge PB at 17.79m and became Surrey Champion. This helped me get picked for the British Athletics Futures programme for developing athletes and started to get support directly from British Athleteics. In 2014, I was selected for the World Class Performance Programme and I went on to compete at the European Championships were I won my first senior GB vest and finished 4th In 2015 I qualified for the Anniversary Games and threw my first throw over 21m, in fact 21.01m, and set a new PB. Later that year I went to the World Championships in Doha, which was a great experience and I won my first international medal for Great Britain - a Bronze. 2016 was an amazing year for me, I set a new PB of 21.23m and was selected to go to the Paralympic Games in Rio. This was a great experience, and I had achieved one of my dream to become a Paralympian. Sadly, I finished 4th, but not bad for my first Paralympics and at only 20 which for a thrower is a young age.
Goals & ambitions:
My goal this year is to make selected for the World Championships in London, and hopefully set a new PB and break the 22m barrier. In the longer term I aim to get to another Paralympic Games and medal. My ultimate ambition is to set a new world record at a Paralympic Games and a win the Gold Medal.
I know this is going to be a really tough ask, but if you don’t aim high…….

A new CP Teens UK Ambassador Programme is launched
November 28, 2015
A brand new CP Teens UK Ambassador Programme has been launched. The new programme will see some fresh faces and a new structure. It aims to give more power to Ambassadors, promote confidence, enhance skills and provide new and fun experiences.
Watch this space in early 2016 to meet your new team of Ambassadors!
The inaugural CP Teens UK Ball is a huge success!
On Saturday 17th October 2015, CP Teens UK held it's first ever charity ball, organised by Ellie and a small group of family & friends. Ellie managed to get Sophie Christiansen OBE, World Paralympic Dressage Champion, to attend as the Celebrity Guest. Sophie opened the Ball with a 'bang' giving the 150 guests a fantastic, inspirational speech of how she had used disability sport as a tool to come out of her comfort zone, especially in relation to speaking as Sophie's Cerebral Palsy affects her speech - "Life really does begin outside of your comfort zone".
CP Teens UK Ambassadors, Chloe Tear & Cat Lee attended the evening. CP Teens who had previously only met 'virtually' through CP Teens UK were able to get their ball gowns and tuxedos out and finally meet in person and make special memories.
An incredible £7,613 was raised on the night for CP Teens UK! A large proportion of this will go to the brand new 'CP Teens UK RaceRunning Club', giving teenagers & young people with Cerebral Palsy and similar disabilities sporting and social opportunities. On average, a RaceRunner costs £1,500-£2,000, but the difference it makes to a young person's life and the opportunities it can provide them with is incredible.
A massive thank you to everyone who supported the Ball, especially those who donated Raffle & Auction prizes, and to the main sponsors of the evening Stratstone BMW & MINI. A special thanks also goes to:
- Banner Jones Solicitors
- Wilkins Hammond Charted Surveyors
- Stratstone BMW & MINI Chesterfield
- Stratstone BMW & MINI Derby
- Sheffield Children's Hospital NHS Foundation
Photos of the night can be found in the Gallery
